The Spiritist Doctrine, basis of Spiritism, is found in The Spirits' Book consisting of 1019 questions answered by Spirits of a High Degree, transmitted through various mediums. These answers were collected and set in order by Allan Kardec, who published four other books explaining further the Spiritist Doctrine: The Mediums' Book, The Gospel According to Spiritism, The Genesis and Heaven and Hell. These five books together comprise the Codification of the Spiritist Doctrine and were originally written in French, Kardec's native tongue.
